Institute of Virtual Manufacturing (IVP) - Department of Mechanical and Process Engineering (D-MAVT)

The present Institute of Virtual Manufacturing originated form the Institute of Forming Technology (IfU) founded by Prof. Dr. J. Reissner in 1976. As a consequence of the fast development of information technologies in the 1980s and 90s the research focus merged from classical experimental forming technology to the methods of virtual process modelling. The re-naming into Institute of Virtual Manufacturing (IVP) in 2001 allowed for this reorientation. From fall 2004 to summer 2020 Prof. Dr. Pavel Hora was the head of the Institute. The main focus of research has been on the virtual process-planning and -optimization, constitutive material-modelling and failure-prediction. In addition processes for virtual modelling of manufacturing-behavior particularly with regard to the evaluation of process-robustness have been investigated.

In fall 2015 Prof. Dr. Dirk Mohr joined the IVP with the Chair of Computational Modelling of Materials in Manufacturing. He has been the Head of the Institute since 2020.

In Summer 2020 Prof. Dr. Markus Bambach joined the IVP with the newly founded Advanced Manufacturing laboratory.
